John 15:17, “This is my command: Love each other.”

How much simpler can Jesus make it? He has told us before to love one another, he has told us to love each other has he has loved us, he has told us that he loves us as the Father has loved him, he has told us there is no greater love than to lay down our life for our friends. We are to simply love one another. And this comes in the same breath as the last verse, where he told us we are to bear much fruit. So, there has to be a connection between this fruit and loving each other. When you think about it, love is the very key to the gospel. God loved us, Jesus came out of love for us, he died because he loved us. And we are to be loving one another as well. Really, if we love one another, we won’t do things that hurt or offend them. If we love one another we will share all the good news he knows with them, and what news is greater than God loves you and wants you to come to him?

We talked Sunday about wanting to do great things for God, doing big things; but the greatest thing we can do is love folks. And that love is so often revealed in the little things. Mother Teresa once said, “We cannot all do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Father, help me love somebody today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
