Manteo Rotary makes many community contributions

The Manteo Rotary Club has noted that the group is “small but mighty” and listed a wide array of activities and contributions members have participated in.

“Below is a listing of what we have done in the past 6 months:

  1. Had a table at the Manteo Downtown Market (July 10, Aug 7, Sep 4)
  2. Participated in the Rotary District Conference in Williamsburg
  3. Spearheaded the Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament dedicated to Marc Basnight; funds are used to provide scholarships for MHS, Wanchese Christian Academy, and home-schooled students
  4. Participated in the Manteo Litter Pick Up Day
  5. Provided a grant to Manteo Elementary School for their Global Read Aloud Project
  6. Participated in the Manteo Christmas Parade
  7. Provided funds for the “Spirit of Freedom” Candy Bomber annual event
  8. For our December Service Project, club members visited the Dare County EMS station 2; Dare MedFlight Station 7, and the Emergency Management staff and presented gift cards to each staff member
  9. Supported the Kentucky Tornado relief efforts
  10. Supported the Roanoke Island Women’s Club with their Thanksgiving project
  11. Participated in Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust and the local Alzheimer’s Walk
  12. Provided support for Dare County Arts Council’s First Friday events
  13. Made contributions to the Outer Banks Community Foundation’s Marc Basnight, Sonny Albarty and Manteo Rotary Scholarship Funds
  14. Supported the Saving Lives Taskforce Workshop
  15. Contributed to Haiti Earthquake relief efforts
  16. Contributed to Polio Plus
  17. Provided ongoing sponsorship of the Jockey’s Ridge boardwalk project
  18. Donated to the Community Care Clinic of Dare
  19. Manage the Roanoke Island Community Garden

“Where do we go from here?

“Our efforts now are focused on Dare to C.A.R.E., a free vascular screening program. All of the Outer Banks Rotary Clubs are working together to bring this program to Dare County. (More information to come…)”

Be on the lookout for the Outer Banks Rotary Clubs float in the St. Patrick’s Parade.

Those who interested in making a difference in the community are invited by the club to consider joining Rotary. The Manteo Rotary Club meets the first and third Mondays of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hungry Pelican. All are invited.
