North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation FF-13-2022 closed the commercial red drum fishery at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022.

Dealers have until noon, March 25, 2022 to sell, offer for sale, transport or have in possession unfrozen red drum taken prior to this closure.

“The intent of this proclamation is to manage the commercial harvest of red drum during the September through April harvest period within the 150,000 pound limit implemented by Amendment 1 of the N.C. Red Drum Fishery Management plan. For red drum, the commercial fishing year is September 1 through August 31. The second harvest period (100,000 pounds) is May through August. The fishery will open by proclamation no sooner than May 1,” states the proclamation.
