North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation SH-2-2022 maintains bycatch reduction device and turtle excluder device requirements for taking shrimp with trawls in Croatan and Roanoke sounds, portions of the Pamlico, Bay and Neuse rivers, Core Sound and the Internal Coastal Fishing Waters south to the North Carolina-South Carolina State Line where up to 90 feet of combined headrope is allowed. These restrictions also apply in Coastal Fishing Waters including the Atlantic Ocean for all skimmer trawls.

The detailed rules are effective at 12:01 a.m. July 1, 2022.

The proclamation requires the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries Bycatch Reduction Devices be properly installed and operational in the tail bag/cod end of each net. A second authorized bycatch reduction device is required or an additional ancillary device.
