Dare Cooperative Extension plans several upcoming activities

The Dare County Cooperative Extension office has upcoming events and programs planned for adults and children alike.

Ask a Master Gardener will be available at the Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden every Wednesday from April through November, weather permitting, from 9 to 11 a.m. Bring garden questions, samples and photos or pick up a soil sample kit.

Children ages 5 to 18 are invited to learn all about creating a 4-H presentation at a free event Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The class will involve brainstorming ideas, learning about presentation categories and preparing for the district competition. (The 5- to 7-year-olds may participate, but they do not compete.) Register by April 22 by calling or emailing Ruth Perkins at 252-473-4290 or raperki2@ncsu.edu. The class will be held at the Dare County Cooperative Extension Office.

Get ahead of summer garden bounty by learning how to make strawberry preserves. The class will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Dare County Cooperative Exension Office and the cost is $10. Call or email Dee Furlough at 252-473-4290 or dee_furlough@ncsu.edu to register.

Celebrate Earth Day and learn more about azaleas! Join the Dare County Master Gardeners at the Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden for an Earth Day celebration with a Talk & Tour on Friday, April 22 (drizzle or shine) at 10:30 a.m. at 300 Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills. The program is free; no registration is required.
