1936 – 2022

Nags Head, NC – Marilyn A. Meyer/Warren, 1936 – 2022, was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to parents, Henry and Jenny Meyer. She graduated from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI and Hunter College, NYC, and taught in Illinois, Michigan and NYC.

From early childhood on, the faith-based journey was encouraged, and singing, learned from parental example became a life long gift. Professional church choirs and volunteer civic choral groups, such as the Apollo Club in Chicago, were participated in and enjoyed. A memorable performance took place with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fritz Reiner, conducting. She also was a member of the choir at Madison Ave. Presbyterian Church in NYC for many years.

A mid west Michigan beginning was followed by thirty years in New York City. Teaching first graders, from diverse backgrounds on the lower east side, brought unquestionable joy.

In retirement years on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, sand and ocean seemed to fulfill a life long dream. Together with Forest Warren, her husband, the “spiritual journey” became complete. Forest, a professional singer, began the Concert Chorale of the Outer Banks. This resulted in trips to England and choir festivals with David Willcocks and Paul Leddington Wright. It also resulted in two young boys under Forest’s tutelage, from the Outer Banks, being accepted and graduating from St. Thomas Choir School in NYC.

Forest Warren died of ALS in 2010; Marilyn Meyer died of Parkinson’s Disease in 2022. Survivors include her sister, Janice (N. L. Schoon), one niece, two nephews and their families. She also leaves many treasured longtime friends and caregivers.
