COVID-19 update for Dare

In Dare County as of May 23, new COVID-19 cases numbered 203, doubled from a week ago when the count was 109.

Of that May 23 number, 176 were residents. Some 98 are active cases, 50 more than last week.

Two Dare County residents are hospitalized. No hospitalizations were reported last week.

During the pandemic, Dare County recorded 27 deaths.

COVID cases in Dare County Schools show six student cases and three staff cases. The by-school breakdown shows the following:

At First Fight Middle, two students and one staffer.

At First Flight High School, one student and one staffer.

Manteo Elementary, one student.

Manteo Middle, one staffer.

Manteo High School, two students.

Cape Hatteras Elementary, Cape Hatteras Secondary, First Flight Elementary, Kitty Hawk Elementary, Nags Head Elementary showed no student or staff COVID cases. No support staffers had COVID.

The CDC community level for Dare County shows low.

In Dare County, 76% of those eligible have received at least one dose of vaccine; 73% have received two doses and 41% have gotten one booster.
