Speed limits lowered for areas of Hatteras Island

Speed limit signs along sections of NC 12 have been changed.
The speed limits in the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Frisco have dropped from 45 miles per hour to 35 to account for more vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the summer months.
The speed limit also drops between Avon and Buxton.
The lowered speed limits last until September 15.
