Theatre of Dare, community theater for the Outer Banks, is partnering with Porkchop Productions to present a series of children’s shows to be performed at the theater, located at 3848 N. Croatan Highway, MP 4, in Kitty Hawk.
“We’re so excited to welcome Porkchop Productions into our new home,” says Kelsey Thompson, Theatre of Dare’s business director. “The community is always looking for fun activities for children, and I’m pleased to be able to invite locals and visitors alike to experience professional, interactive theater.”
Two shows will be presented on each date, one at 10:30 a.m. and one at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for children, $6 for adults and are available at theatreofdareobx.com. Dates and performance descriptions are:
June 8 and 29: The Tortoise & The Hare
“The race is on, in our fractured take of this fable favorite! When a timid tortoise has heard enough bragging from a boastful hare, the stage is set for the competition of a lifetime! Will the tortoise come out ahead? Or will the hare learn an important lesson about being a sore loser?
“Find out in this fast-paced play that highlights new characters, big laughs, and audience participation!”
July 6 and 27: Three Goats Gruff
“Join Martha Graham, Ringo, and Van Goat Gruff as they head to greener pastures to make their artistic dreams come true! Will their dreams of fame and fortune come to fruition? Or will their endeavors be thwarted by a horrible (or maybe not so horrible) troll? Find out in our rollicking adaptation of this classic tale! Colorful characters, audience participation, and a surprise ending that will warm the frostiest of hearts, highlight this one-of-a-kind theatrical adventure!”
August 3 and 17: RAPunzel
“A rapping narrator, an overbearing enchantress, and a damsel who just wants to let her wig…uh…hair down bring our fantastically fractured fairy tale to life! Music, song, and dance collide in this upbeat, yet heartwarming story about growing up… and letting go. Get ready to dance in the aisles with Rapunzel… or RAPunzel… like you’ve never seen her before!”
Porkchop Productions, a professional theater company, will present the shows, featuring Stacey Maxwell and Abigail Theakston. They have performed extensively for schools, libraries, youth groups and special events throughout the southeast, including Dare Days in Manteo, and are dedicated to expanding artistic horizons by providing a professional, interactive theater experience for young people and promoting a life-long appreciation of the performing arts.
