Water’s Edge Village School in Corolla (WEVS) has announced that Ed and Juliet Jesson, long-time supporters of WEVS, have given $20,000 toward the capital campaign to raise $1.35 million to construct a new academic building adjacent to the current school, in Corolla’s 1890s historic two-room schoolhouse.

This donation is the Jessons’ third major donation in support of the school. The first two donations supported the school’s technology needs.

Founders of OBXtek, a service disabled veteran-owned technology solutions company, the Jessons have always loved the Outer Banks, according to a Corolla Education Foundation press release. Ed said of the donation, “Juliet and I have always believed in supporting children and education. The Water’s Edge Village School is doing what we would want for any child, in a place we love to be!”

“While charter schools are technically schools of choice, Corolla students whose names aren’t drawn in the annual WEVS lottery due to size constrictions of the schoolhouse have to spend 4 hours a day on a public school bus to their local public school,” stated the release. “Individual engagement is necessary to grow the school because by state law, state and local governments may not contribute capital to charter schools. Without this additional building, WEVS will have to continue to limit access to a local Corolla education and to waitlist students.”
