Marking of the Rodanthe Bridge restarted on Monday, June 27, 2022.

Under the terms of its contract with Flatiron, T.M.I Services Inc., of Graham, has an opportunity to cure the problem for both Flatiron and NCDOT.

T.M.I. reported to the state’s transportation agency that the marking truck needed a new nozzle head and distribution fixture.

To take up the markings that do not meet NCDOT specifications, equipment that looks like a big street sweeper will be used to scarify the surface and pull up a little bit of concrete or asphalt along with the old paint.

In tight places like the roundabout, a walk-behind eradicator will be used.

It will take two days to pull up the old paint. One full day will be need to mark the Rodanthe Bridge. Painting is weather dependent.

“Except for the markings, the bridge is ready for public traffic,” said Pablo Hernandez, NCDOT district resident engineer in Manteo.

Hernandez also reported that the majority of the punch list has been accomplished. The prime contractor has a few little things yet to do.
