With many special milestones happening this year and a big anniversary coming up, Dare County Arts Council has been evolving through a brand refresh to reflect the nonprofit’s recent growth and is proud to present Dare Arts.

“Our goal was to refresh the organization’s brand identity and then embrace that identity by making it visible and accessible to our residents and visitors,” said Richard Phillips, Dare Arts president. “We chose Dare Arts as a new name for the organization because it is edgy, easy to remember and a more accurate representation of what we do. The new logo is a circle to signify the notion of timelessness, the brush strokes/waves are a nod to the arts and the wonderful place Dare Arts calls home, and the simple, sleek colors were chosen so that the logo can be put on amazing artwork to promote our exhibits, programs, workshops, and events. We hope you love Dare Arts as much as we do. As always, we appreciate your support, and look forward to continuing to enrich the arts in Dare County.”

In the last 12 months, Dare Arts has opened its new courtyard, transitioned out of virtual events from the pandemic, hosted the largest Frank Stick Memorial Art Show to date, celebrated the 25th year of the Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show and the 10th year of Rock The Cape, expanded First Fridays in downtown Manteo, hosted 21 monthly art exhibitions and hired new staff.

As Dare Arts moves forward in 2022, the organization will continue to celebrate more milestones while offering exciting art opportunities.

In August, Dare Arts will host the 40th Annual New World Festival Of The Arts and a special residency with Charlotte artist, activist and community leader Rosalia Torres-Weiner. The 11th Annual Surfalorus Film Festival will return in September and The Great Art Heist Auction will return in October. Dare Arts will commemorate the 10th year of the Outer Banks Veterans Writing Workshop in November. Thanks to a recent grant from the Outer Banks Hospital, Dare Arts is expanding its Power of Art program, which serves special groups in need or with limited access to arts programming and education.

“What a special year 2022 is for us,” said Dare Arts executive director Jessica Sands. “I have watched this organization grow by leaps and bounds, and the best is yet to come. We have been busy looking for ways to offer fresh, exciting art opportunities to all demographics in our community, and Dare Arts is a big part of that. As we look toward the future, planning is already underway for our 50th anniversary.”

Dare Arts will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025.
