Two beachgoers were injured Monday afternoon, July 12 in an incident on the beach in Duck.

According to a press release from the Town of Duck, a lifeguard for Duck Surf Rescue was conducting patrol on a UTV when the sand collapsed at a drop-off on the beach and the vehicle overturned onto two people.

“The two visitors were transported by Dare County EMS to the Outer Banks Hospital for treatment of their injuries,” stated the Tuesday release. “The lifeguard had no reported injuries. At this time, the matter is under investigation by the Town of Duck Police Department and the owner of Duck Surf Rescue.”

Chief lifeguard Mirek Dabrowski stated that “this was an unfortunate accident, and he hopes for a quick recovery for the beach patrons that were injured.”

Duck Surf Rescue is the contracted ocean rescue service for the Town of Duck and provides ocean rescue services from May 1 to October 31 within town limits.
