Moyock man charged following discovery of two dead dogs, injuries to two others

The Currituck County Animal Services and Control Department charged a county resident with two felony animal abuse charges on Thursday, July 7, 2022 after two dogs were discovered dead at a home in Moyock, stated a press release from Currituck County. The

Christopher Ryan Riedel, 32, of Moyock, was also served with two misdemeanor charges of animal abuse for two additional dogs found alive with injuries. Riedel was arrested with a $40,000 bond and his first court appearance was July 13, 2022.

According to the release, the dogs were discovered on Sunday, July 3 when Animal Control officers responded to a report of animal cruelty in the 100 block of Mack Jones Road.  Officers found two deceased female French bulldogs named Nala and Ruby. Necropsies have been performed on both.

The two surviving dogs – Hershey, a male French Bulldog, and Marlee, a female Pomeranian/Husky mix – were taken by Animal Control to a veterinarian for examinations, treatment and documentation of their injuries. The dogs are back with their owner, who is an acquaintance of Riedel.

No additional information regarding the injuries or cause of death is available at this time.
