Book signing set in Manteo for Hannah Bunn West

On Friday, July 22, Downtown Books will host Hannah Bunn West, author of Remarkable Women of the Outer Banks, one of this summer’s most popular titles.

West is a freelance writer who was born and raised on the Outer Banks, studied creative nonfiction at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and continues to live on these barrier islands with her husband and children.

Remarkable Women of the Outer Banks, from Arcadia Publishing, is her first book and documents the daring women who are behind some of the greatest accomplishments on the Outer Banks: colonist Eleanor Dare; Chrissy Bowser, who found her freedom as the Civil War rocked Roanoke Island; and Irene Tate, who watched the Wright brothers assemble their glider in her front yard then went on to become a record-setting pilot herself. Other featured women include Carolista Baum and Cheryl Shelton-Roberts, who fought to save sand dunes and move lighthouses.

West will sign copies of this book on Friday at Downtown Books, located at 103 Sir Walter Raleigh Street in downtown Manteo, from noon until 2 p.m. Books can be reserved by calling 252-473-1056.
