Mildred Marie Reynolds Mallard, a long-time resident of Greensboro, died July 29, 2022, at the age of 88. She leaves behind a loving family and a legacy of faithful love and sacrificial service. She was known for her courage, resiliency, and no-nonsense candor that all who knew her came to appreciate and love.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Guilford College United Methodist Church, 1205 Fleming Rd., Greensboro. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, 3601 Whitehurst Rd., Greensboro.

Born in 1934 in eastern North Carolina’s Tyrrell County, Mrs. Mallard completed her undergraduate studies in Business Education/Business Administration at Eastern Carolina University and received a master’s degree in Business Education/Guidance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. An avid, lifelong reader, Mildred loved studying and sharing what she learned with others. She taught at both Andrew’s High School and Guilford College but completed her teaching career by serving as an instructor and department head at Guilford Technical Community College in the Accounting Department from 1976 – 1994. She continued to teach friends and family all her years through the exemplary life she lived.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Mallard’s keen mind was often occupied with thoughts of her family, and her days were filled with their presence. Left to grieve her loss and share her memory are her beloved sons and daughters-in-law, David and Michele Mallard and Ken and Jennifer Mallard of Greensboro. Affectionately known as Memaw to many who knew her locally, she was given that name by her treasured grandchildren: Joseph Mallard of Greensboro, who was also her trusty housemate and companion; Daniel (Naomi) Mallard of Chicago, Esther Marie Mallard of Atlanta, and Lee Mallard of Durham, who just as affectionately called her Grandma. Memaw also got to meet and hold her new great-granddaughter, Selah.

Mrs. Mallard was preceded in death by her parents, Alton M. Reynolds and Mildred Irene Smith Reynolds; her husband of 51 years, Lawrence Henry Mallard; her brother, Richard Reynolds; her step-mother, Olive Weede Reynolds; and one grandson, Weston Mallard.

Mildred was an active member of Guilford College United Methodist Church, attending Bible Studies, Sarah Circle of the UNW, and the James Tew Sunday School. She lived out her faith and her love for the Lord through loyal friendships with other women in the church and by treating everyone she met with respect and honesty. She was a courageous woman with an uncommon strength of character. She will be greatly missed in this life.
