Grandy, NC – Michael O’Brien, 65, of Grandy, NC died Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA.

Born in Streator, IL on August 30, 1956, he was the son of the late Virginia Yuhas O’Brien and Kenneth O’Brien.

Michael was the owner and operator of Roof Busters, Inc in Kill Devil Hills, NC. He was dedicated to his business but most importantly, he loved his family. When Michael was not working or spending time with his family, you could find him working in the yard, watching country westerns, and on Sundays cheering on his team the Chicago Bears.

Michael is survived by his wife, Tracey Lee O’Brien; two daughters, Amanda “Manda” Velke (Zach) and Melissa “Missy” Scarborough (Heath); two sons, Jason “Jay” Duncan-Velke (Anthony) and Rodney Rawls; and seven grandchildren, Caidence, Logan, Harley, Gabe, Skyler, Grayson, Aubree.  Also, surviving are long-time best friend and business partner John Gonter, four sisters, Noreen, Susan, Kathy, and Eileen; and one brother, Richard.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a sister, Patty.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo with Rev. Steve Siegrist officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm.

Following the service there will be a Celebration of Life at Haven on the Banks Keeper’s Galley in Nags Head, N.C.;  food, music, and beverages provided by the family.
