Dare County Parks and Recreation fall registration is open.

Registration for fall programs is available via Rec Desk, the Parks and Recreation online registration portal launched in the spring. “The new registration system is user friendly,” said leisure services supervisor Charlotte Midgett-Winstead. “It takes three minutes, or less, to build a household account.” Rec Desk can be accessed via the Dare County Parks and Recreation website at darenc.com/departments/parks-recreation.

Programs are offered for children as young as one to adults of all ages. Youth activities include activities such as dance, football, gardening, gymnastics, lacrosse, roller skating, soccer and more. Dance, fitness, softball and pickleball are some of the programs offered for adults.

Families of middle and high school students are encouraged to register their teens for the free afterschool program. The program is located at the Dare County Youth Center located at 602 Mustain Street in Kill Devil Hills, which is within walking distance of First Flight Middle School and First Flight High School. The program gives young people multiple leisure options to spend their afterschool time, whether in sports, game room activities, socializing with friends or using quiet time to work on school assignments.

The annual sports equipment exchange program is accepting donated football cleats, soccer cleats and shin guards. The items are available to athletes who need the equipment to play sports.

Donations and sport equipment exchanges will take place Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 23 at the Dare County Parks and Recreation office located at 602 Mustain Street in Kill Devil Hills. Athletes are welcome to select equipment regardless of whether they have sports equipment to donate.

“Sometimes it is difficult for families to find sports equipment. With shipping issues and problems with ordering, sometimes it is hard to find the right sizes,” said Midgett-Winstead. “The sports equipment exchange is a good way for people to get rid of the things they don’t need and offer it to a family who needs it.”

Also, volunteer coaches are needed for youth sports teams. Anyone interested in volunteering as a youth coach a team is encouraged to visit the Dare County Parks and Recreation website to complete a volunteer application.

Registration deadlines vary and guidelines for program registration is available on the Parks and Recreation website. Registration is available online or in-person at one of the Dare County Parks and Recreation division offices.
