Island Farm is celebrating the 14th birthday of Roxanna, the site’s beloved cow, on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

Shortly after Roxanna’s arrival to the farm as a yearling in June 2009, she was named “Roxanna” by a local preschool class. Roxanna – or Roxie for short – is an Etheridge family name; the Etheridge family were the original inhabitants of the Island Farm site. Roxie is a cross between a Jersey and Guernsey, both popular breeds of dairy cattle.

On her birthday, guests can expect to get up close and personal with Roxie and spoil her on her special day. Visitors will feed her treats such as cucumbers, watermelon and/or sweet potato and sing her “Happy Birthday” while she and her feathered friends – the chickens – enjoy a cow-safe cake. Festivities are included with the $10 admission fee.
