The Outer Banks Hospital awards grants to local agencies

The Outer Banks Hospital has announced the recipients of the 2022-23 Community Benefit Grants Program. “Grants are awarded for projects that will significantly increase access to healthcare and financial resources in our community for nearly 20,000 individuals in need,” stated a press release from the hospital.

Albemarle Development Corporation – Oversee the Senior Nutrition Program that currently provides Meals on Wheels for Ocracoke residents.

Beach Food Pantry – Launch the Fresh for All Program that will reduce food insecurity by providing fresh foods on a consistent schedule and utilize a co-op model that will aid clients in developing leadership abilities, improving social connections and improving mental health and well-being.

Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County – Mindfulness-based wellness programs for students at Dare County Schools and the Latinx community.

Community Care Clinic of Dare – Medical care for uninsured/low income patients.

Cross Roads OBX Association – Launch a Peer Support Specialist Program to assist those struggling with substance abuse.

Dare Arts – Expand the Power of Art programs for those affected by cancer and expand offerings to underserved populations to promote interaction, creativity and mental health.

Dare County Health Department’s Breaking Through Task Force – Public awareness and education campaign to reduce the stigma related to behavioral health.

Dare County Health Department’s Women’s Health Programs – Prenatal ultrasounds and breast cancer diagnostics for underserved women in Dare County.

Dare County Transportation – Transportation of patients to medical care appointments.

Food for Thought – Provide grocery store gift cards for families experiencing financial stress and food insecurity.

Interfaith Community Outreach – Medical assistance and crisis intervention.

NC MedAssist – Free pharmacy services shipped directly to patients’ homes and an over-the-counter medication giveaway event in Dare County.

Outer Banks Family YMCA – Implement the Supportive Exercise for Individuals with Parkinson’s program, provide speciality equipment and support Open Doors Scholarships for underinsured or low income community members
