Members of the public are invited to a community viewing of the “NC Trusted Elections Virtual Town Hall” on Monday, September 19 at 7 p.m. at the College of The Albemarle’s Manteo campus in the Veterans Memorial Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the virtual town hall will begin at 7 p.m. Local candidate forum and Vote 411 information will be available prior to the viewing.

This town hall is sponsored by The Carter Center, LWVNC and US Veterans Hall of Fame. It will be shared via Zoom and will feature live panelists answering frequently asked questions about election integrity. North Carolina has been identified as a state which may be at elevated risk of violence and other disruptions to the electoral process during the 2022 election. The event is meant to remind citizens of the many dedicated election workers and secure processes we have across the state.

The virtual moderator will be Tim Boyum, Spectrum News 1 political anchor and Capital Tonight host. Both political parties are being represented as panelist/speakers. Discussions will focus on electoral mechanics, back-up systems in place, fail-safe guarantees against hacking election results and questions on fraud and mismanagement.

The North Carolina Network for Fair, Safe and Secure Elections is a bipartisan, grassroots effort initiated by The Carter Center. Led by former Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts and former N.C. Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr, the network is made up of civic, business and religious leaders and citizens from both sides of the political aisle.

Orr, a former Republican justice and one of the leaders of this grassroots initiative says, “The network should serve as an example that there is far more about which Americans agree than about which we disagree.”
