Two applicants have filed certificate of need applications with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to acquire one fixed MRI scanner in response to a need determination in the 2022 State Medical Facilities Plan in the multi-county service area that includes Currituck and Pasquotank counties.

The two projects are:

– Chesapeake Diagnostic Imaging Centers LLC proposes to acquire one fixed MRI scanner for its diagnostic center in Elizabeth City in Pasquotank County. The project is expected to cost $3 million and would be completed in April 2024.

– Sentara Advanced Imaging Solutions LLC proposes to acquire one fixed MRI scanner for its diagnostic center in Moyock in Currituck County. The project is expected to cost $2.6 million and would be completed in Feb. 2025.

A public hearing for these projects will be held Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. in the meeting room of the Pasquotank County Public Library, located at 100 East Colonial Ave. in Elizabeth City.

Anyone may file written comments concerning this proposal. Comments must be received by the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section no later than 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Comments may be submitted as an attachment to an email if they are sent to DHSR.CON.Comments@dhhs.nc.gov. Comments may also be mailed to Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section, Division of Health Service Regulation, 2704 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-2704.
