Kill Devil Hills, NC – Vivian Marie Thomas Monds, 71, of 409 West Durham Street, died Friday, November 4, 2022 in Sentara Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

Mrs. Monds was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on April 21, 1951, and was the daughter of the late Earis Deral and Verdie Mae Dixon Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and E.D. “Tom” Thomas Jr.

Many will remember her working at the former Beacon Motor Lodge in Nags Head where for 27 years she served as the desk clerk, registering guests, giving directions, and doing her best in assuring the visitors enjoyed their stay at the Outer Banks.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Michael E. Monds; two daughters, Dawn Denton (husband, Rick) of Kitty Hawk and Christine Kent (husband, Steven) of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Katherine Richardson, and a brother, Stephen Thomas, both of Portsmouth; and three grandchildren, Dayna Denton, Alec Denton, and Brianna Kent.

The family is planning a memorial service in celebration of her life to be held on her birthday next April.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to any chapter of the SPCA, or other animal care organizations.
