The Elizabethan Gardens set to blossom with light in WinterLights event

The Elizabethan Gardens’ annual WinterLights event opens Friday, November 25, 2022 and will run on designated nights through Friday, December 30, 2022 from 6 to 9 p.m. Guests can stroll along illuminated garden paths to discover the joy of the season with lights that transform the 10-acre gardens into a winter wonderland. Sponsored in part by Southern Bank and The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, the event has become an annual holiday tradition with all proceeds benefiting the Gardens. Guests are encouraged to visit the Gardens’ website at for a listing of scheduled entertainment and evenings with Santa.

Event dates are November 25, 26, 27, 29, 30 and December 1-4, 6-11, 13-18, 20-23, 27-30 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Timed-entry tickets must be reserved online at and are non-refundable unless a scheduled evening is canceled by The Elizabethan Gardens. Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for youth (6 to 17), $8 for children (2 to 5), free for children under age 2 and $5 for dogs (one per adult).

If inclement weather or other conditions prevent the lights from occurring, a notice will be sent out to all anticipated guests by 2 p.m.

Virginia Dare Night, set for November 27, is sponsored by Dominion Energy and is designed for Dare County, Currituck County and Ocracoke Island residents. Locals are invited to attend WinterLights for free with donations of non-perishable food items benefiting Roanoke Island Food Pantry. Virginia Dare Night tickets are limited, so it is advised that those interested reserve tickets online earlyIn addition to the food or dry goods donations, residents are required to show proof of Dare County, Currituck County or Ocracoke Island residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill. Pre-opening donation collection begins at 5 p.m. Recommended items for the food drive include canned vegetables, fruits, meats, soups and beans; tomato and pasta products; cereals; toilet paper and paper towels. There are no rain checks with these free tickets.

Guests must park in designated spaces. Overflow parking will be available at the National Park Service parking lot. A shuttle will transport guests from/to this lot on Friday and Saturday nights from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
