G. Irvin Aldridge, 88, of Wilmington, retired lawyer passed away on the 7^th day of December, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. He was born March 10, 1934, in Yanceyville, North Carolina, son of the late Carlton H. and Edna Rudd Aldridge. He is survived by wife of 40 years, Mary H. Aldridge, two children, George Aldridge (Sandra), Sharon A. Walker (Wally) all of Yanceyville, N.C., three grandchildren, Mitch and Ridge Walker and Alarie Watson, two sisters, Carolyn Aldridge and Linda Balance, brother Bobby Aldridge, and several nephews and nieces.

Irvin graduated from Anderson High School in Caswell County in 1952 and received Curry King Best all-around student and was president of his high school class. He was active in 4-H Club and served as President of Caswell County 4-H Council and served as President of 4-H Honor Club of North Carolina. He was a member of Caswell County Jaycees, served as President of Club, Vice President, and National Director and President of North Carolina Jaycees in 1966-67. He graduated from Elon University in 1956 with degree in history and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law in 1959 with BA JD degree in law. He served as President of 3^rd year class in law school.

He joined Bob Scott Campaign for Governor in 1967 and worked full time until Governor Scott took office in 1969. He served on the Inaugural Committee and served as Director of Local Affairs three years and then as 1^st Secretary of North Carolina Department of Commerce and stayed until the end of Bob Scott’s term as Governor.

He moved to Manteo, North Carolina and opened a law practice and practiced law for 25 years until retirement at the end of 1997. He was with the law firm of Aldridge and Seawell.

He joined the Manteo Lions Club and served as President and received Lion of the Year award also served as District Chairman of White Cane and State Chairman of Eye and Human Tissue Bank. He was also a member of Manteo Masonic Lodge for 44 years.

He was elected by the North Carolina Senate to the North Carolina Board of Governors in 1993, served 12 years and held office of Committee Chairman, Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Board.

Irvin truly enjoyed clamming in Oregon Inlet and went quite often and gave his friends all the clams they wanted. After retirement, he traveled by motorhome throughout the United States with his wife, Mary, and Maltese dog. He also had a great passion for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and enjoyed tailgating with his wonderful ‘Carolina friends’ – lots of good memories on those occasions.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Wrightsville United Methodist Church, 4 Live Oak Drive, Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
