Coast Guard seeks assistance locating overdue sailboat last seen departing Oregon Inlet

The U.S. Coast Guard 5th District Mid-Atlantic has reported it is seeking help from the public in locating an overdue 30-foot Catalina sailboat with two people on board.

According to the Coast Guard, the vessel has a bluish-purple hull, a white superstructure and white sails and has two people aboard, Kevin Hyde, 64, and Joe DiTommasso, 76.

“The U.S. Coast Guard is attempting to locate the sailing vessel “Atrevida II” (NJ 7033HN). #Atrevida II is traveling from Cape May, NJ to Marathon, FL,” stated the Coast Guard in a Facebook post Monday morning, December 12, 2022. “The #sailboat was last seen on December 3, 2022 when it departed Oregon Inlet, NC on its way to Jupiter, FL.”

It was reported the sailboat may have stopped in Morehead City, but this is not confirmed.

Those with any information regarding the missing boaters should call the Coast Guard Atlantic Area Command Center at 757-398-6700.
