Elizabeth City man facing drug and firearm charges after Manteo traffic stop, juvenile petitions taken for other person in vehicle

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a man is facing charges and another individual had juvenile petitions taken out for drug and firearm offenses following a Manteo traffic stop.

According to a DCSO press release, on December 5, 2022 at approximately 1:03 p.m., Sheriff Doug Doughtie attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding on Hwy 64 coming towards Manteo from the Pirate’s Cove area. “The vehicle failed to yield to the blue lights and siren and turned into Manteo where other Sheriff’s Office Deputies were able to assist in getting the vehicle stopped in front of the Christmas Shop,” stated the release. “Two individuals were detained, and a search was conducted. During the search two handguns, an amount of Cocaine and US Currency were located and seized.”

The driver, Sayqwan Kylik Jones, 20, of Elizabeth City, was arrested and charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony maintaining a vehicle, felony possession of a firearm with altered serial number, felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony flee to elude, misdemeanor driving while license revoked, misdemeanor contributing to delinquency of a minor and speeding. Jones was released on a $33,000 secured bond.

The second person in the vehicle was identified as a juvenile. Juvenile petitions were taken for felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of a stolen firearm, misdemeanor possession of firearm by a juvenile, misdemeanor carry a concealed weapon and misdemeanor resist, delay or obstruct. The juvenile was taken into secured custody.
