Manteo Redskins remain undefeated with 7-0 record after two games last week; Christmas tourney next

The Manteo Redskins boys basketball team stands undefeated with a 7-0 record after the week of December 16, 2022.

The team is currently 2-0 in conference standings and ranked fourth in the stated in the 2A East division.

Last week began with a conference win over Edenton 59-47. Kaleb Spencer led the way with Manteo High School’s first triple double, scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocks. Amyas Kenyon score 10 points and Ka Du Close pulled down eight rebounds.

The second game of the week saw Manteo best First Flight 86-82. Will Waughtel scored 20 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Senior Kenyen Conti came back from a shoulder injury to pour in 23 points. Amyas Kenyon scored 15 points and five assists. Kaleb Spencer brought in 14 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Ka Du Close started the game with a drive to the basket and alley-oop to Kaleb Spencer and also scored four crucial points in the last two minutes of the game. He finished the game with six points, six rebounds, two assists and no turnovers. Coach Timmy Charity said,” Ka Du is the best defensive player on the team.” The final score was 86-82.

The Redskins travel to Washington County on December 21 and 22 to play in a Christmas tournament. Manteo will play Bertie in the team’s first game at 6 p.m. on December 21. Bertie is also undefeated. “The Redskins will be tested in the tournament playing against a Bertie and Washington County team,” said Charity.

The first game of the new year is set for January 3, 2023 when the Redskins resume conference play at Currituck High School at 7:30 p.m.
