Cobia rules set for 2023

North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation FF-11-2023 opens commercial cobia fishing Jan. 1, 2023, and recreational cobia fishing May 1, 2023. Both openings start at 12:01 a.m.

For the commercial fishery, the size limit is 36 inches fork length and two cobia per person per day or six per vessel per day is the catch limit.

For the recreational fishery, the season is May 1 through Dec. 31, 2023. The size limit is 36 inches fork length and the catch limit is one cobia per person per day.

For anglers aboard a private vessel, the recreational season is May 1 through June 30. The catch limit is two cobia per vessel per day or one cobia per person per day, if only one person is aboard.

For for-hire vessels from May 1 to Dec. 31, the catch limit is four cobia per vessel per day or one cobia per person per day if fewer than four people are aboard.
