The Roanoke Island Garden Club’s first 2023 meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 5 at Odom Hall, located at The Elizabethan Gardens.

Beginning at 12:30 p.m., refreshments will be served with the business meeting starting at 1 p.m. In lieu of the planned presentation on succulents, a decision has been made to learn more about Old Christmas being celebrated on January 6.

“Old Christmas is a relic of the Julian Calendar developed 2,000 years ago,” noted the meeting announcement. “It is celebrated in West Virginia and Appalachia as well as here on Hatteras Island at the Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo Community Center. Even ‘Old Buck’ joins in the celebration.”
