The Currituck Chamber of Commerce has awarded Gallop Funeral Services, Inc./Gallop Memorial Chapel its 2022 Small Business of the Year with 10 or fewer employees. The ceremony was held in November at the KOA Coinjock social hall with about 100 chamber members and guests in attendance.

According to Josh Bass, Currituck Chamber president and awards presenter, the award is bestowed on a small business that exemplifies high standards of customer service, is dedicated to excellence in its business practices and has accumulated a substantial record of community involvement in addition to other selection criteria. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. and Gallop Memorial Chapel is a past two-time winner of the Currituck Chamber Good Neighbor Award and has maintained active membership in the Currituck Chamber of Commerce for over 15 years.

Accepting the award on behalf of the company were Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. managing partner and funeral director J. Benjamin Andrews, senior service assistant Pastor Richard Heath Jackson and senior funeral attendant Margaret “Peggy” Friedman. Founding partner Courtney N. Gallop, who started the funeral home in Nags Head in 2006, was not able to attend the awards banquet but “was elated and extremely honored and humbled” to have earned the distinction, according to Andrews.

Gallop Funeral Services, Inc., a full-service and independent funeral home, is headquartered in Nags Head and has served Currituck County and Elizabeth City through its chapel location in Barco since 2016. The company has also operated the first-ever crematory in Dare County – Capital Crematory of East Lake – since 2011.
