October 9, 1938 – January 2, 2023

Kitty Hawk, NC – Dorothy (Dot) Gay Mason, 84, longtime resident of Kitty Hawk, NC received and accepted an invitation to spend eternity with the Lord on Monday, January 2, 2023.

Dot was a dedicated educator who taught first grade at Kitty Hawk Elementary School for over 30 years. She was a founding member of Liberty Christian Fellowship in Colington. She loved Bible Study, traveling with her friends to such places as New York City (where they made the Today Show), the San Diego, CA Zoo, two trips to Jerusalem, and many more.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Benjamin Ellis and Lila Gibbs Mason; and three sons, Cleron Overton Carawan Jr., Cleron Michael Carawan, and William Myers Carawan.

Dot is survived by her son and his wife, Benjie and Nancy Carawan of Wanchese; grandson, Ryan Carawan and wife Carree of Edenton; granddaughter, Taylor Rohne and husband Tyler of Portsmouth, VA; brother, David Mason and wife Linda and their children all of Swan Quarter; and many family members in Carteret County and the Morehead area. Last but not least, the multitude of students she taught and had a positive influence on.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Liberty Christian Fellowship, 244 Williams Drive, Kill Devil Hills. A graveside service will follow in the Soule Cemetery, Hyde County, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
