Dear Dare Country Representative Team, Sanderson and Goodwin, of North Carolina Legislature:

The bridge, estimated to cost the state of North Carolina $3.3. million dollars, which NCDOT plans to replace Slash Creek No. 8, is too large for the size and character of the village. The bridge carries NC 12 traffic through the center of Hatteras village.

The bridge designer could not have known the terrain or village for which he drew the specifications. Its right of way practically abuts the Hatteras United Methodist Church building and encroaches on narrow frontage of other properties on both sides of the bridge.

Please, help those you represent. Insist the plan be downsized to fit the land and the village. A 48 foot bridge is inappropriate for Hatteras Village and tiny Slash Creek. To build such a structure in that place is as inappropriate as trying to dock an ocean liner in that area.

Hatteras is the village of my birth. I was born to families, mothers and fathers, of Dare County. Our families, the residents of the village, came there nearly 400 years ago. I was born within about 30 yards of Slash Creek. Please, help us secure a new plan for Slash Creek Bridge 8.

Sincerely yours,

Sybil Austin Skakle
