Manteo ends week in third place, looking for wins in both games this week

The Manteo High School varsity boys basketball team started the week of January 12 in first place in the Coastal 2A-3A Conference and ended the week in third place after losing to the top two teams in the conference, the Northeastern Eagles and the Hertford County Bears.

For the first game, the Redskins hosted Northeastern at home. Two Manteo players had double-doubles: Kenyon Conti had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Kaleb Spencer had 11 points and 15 rebounds.

The overall shooting percentage was 26 from the floor and 22 from the three point line. There were also 20 turnovers, resulting in a 54-64 loss.

On Friday, January 13, the Redskins traveled to Hertford County to play the #1 ranked team in the conference.

Manteo’s shooting remained cold, missing 20 three-pointers during the Hertford game. Amyas Kenyon scored 14 points. Kaleb Spencer scored a triple double with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks.

“Changes have to be made to put the Manteo Redskins back in the winning column,” said assistant coach Eric Pruitt.

The team is currently 10-3 overall, 4-2 in conference play. They traveled to Edenton on Tuesday, January 17 and play at home on Friday, January 20 against Camden.
