Number of single lots in Manteo Cemetery expanded

At the request of Manteo’s Board of Cemetery Trustees, the town’s Board of Commissioners on March 1, 2023 expanded the number of single lots in the Manteo Cemetery.

Jamie Whitley, town clerk, reported that only 20 single lots out of the original 81 are available.

Manteo’s commissioners approved expansion of the single lot section by adding five lots at the back of the new section of the cemetery.

After the expansion, 85 family plots are still available with about 425 lots.

In March 1988, the town commissioners designated the cemetery as a Historic Landmark Site. A year later, the town had acquired all unsold lots, and a Board of Cemetery Trustees was formed.
