Two Cape Hatteras Secondary volleyball players will be playing at Pitt Community College in Greenville this fall.

Seniors Grace Shoemaker and Maleia Quidley signed letters of intent to play volleyball for the Pitt Bulldogs on March 3, 2023. The ceremony took place in the gymnasium on the Cape Hatteras campus in Buxton.

Shoemaker and Quidley were recruited by Pitt head volleyball coach Norman Cabacar.

Both Shoemaker and Quidley played with OBX Wave Volleyball Club as well as Cape Hatteras Secondary. Cabacar looked at match film and watched the pair in a tournament in Rocky Mount.

In the Atlantic Five 1-A Conference in the 2022 season, Shoemaker led all players with serving aces at 75 and kills at 240. Quidley led the conference in assists with 590.

Joining the duo for the signing event were parents and family members, school officials and volleyball teammates.

Cape Hatteras Secondary Principal Beth Rooks said she was happy for both of these student-athletes. “They achieved their goal of playing at the college level.”
