Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Betsy Ore Glass

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17 ESV

Exhausted. Weary. Depleted. I have had those times in my life when I tried doing too much, defying my good sense and overdoing it. Yet, I move forward to accomplish my task, finish up what I started and leap forward into the next project. Surely I am not alone in this insanity! All this takes a toll on my body and I am forced to rest, then I realize I need help, supernatural help.

God will set the pace for us if we surrender it all to Him. He encourages hard work but also rest. Any doctor will tell us that rest is restorative and without it, our gas tanks run on empty, leading to many things we don’t want.

So how can us people that like control allow God to take over? I think for me, it was being frustrated and weary of something I couldn’t fix, yet I continued to try to control it. I finally gave up and in desperate surrender I turned it over to God. What a relief. The next day I awoke with such peace. My heart rate slowed, my breathing was better. I realized I wasn’t carrying heavy bags on my shoulders anymore. When you feel such relief, I think it is easy to give it to God, who is eager to step in when we let Him. If you need to lighten your load, go to God in prayer and listen for guidance, He speaks to us in many ways. Follow God. Our strength is not from us but from God.
