Three arrested in connection with assault in jail parking lot

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office has reported that on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at around 7:40 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Albemarle District Jail, located at 210 Executive Dr. in Elizabeth City in reference to an assault.

“Deputies found the victim, Brian Modlin in the front parking lot of Albemarle District Jail. Pasquotank County EMS responded and transported the victim to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries,” stated a PCSO press release.

“The investigation revealed that Modlin went to Albemarle District Jail to bond someone out when he was approached by two white males and one white female in the parking lot,” the release continued. “The two white males assaulted Modlin by punching him in the face and kicking him in his head after he fell to the ground. Modlin’s wallet, cash, phone and keys were taken from his pockets and thrown in a storm drain.”

According to the release, investigators identified the suspects, who PCSO states acted in concert, as Jeremy Keith Lassiter, Joseph Karl Lassiter and Brittany Renee Lassiter. Jeremy Lassiter was arrested for assault inflicting serious injury and common law robbery and was released under a $15,000 secured bond. Joseph Lassiter was arrested for assault inflicting serious bodily injury and common law robbery and was released under a $15,000 secured bond. Brittany Lassiter was arrested for assault inflicting serious bodily injury and common law robbery she was released under a $5,000 secured bond.
