Crews fight Kill Devil Hills fire, prevent ‘total destruction’ of historically-designated home

The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department fire crews responded April 14, 2023 at 10:58 p.m. to a report of a structure fire in the 1500 block of North Virginia Dare Trail.

Fire crews from Colington and Kitty Hawk fire departments also responded to the incident. The Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS were on scene and assisted in the operation.

The fire was extinguished and contained to the outside of the rear of the structure. No one was injured.

“This fire occurred at one of the Town’s historically designated homes that was built in 1934,” stated Town of Kill Devil Hills public information officer Rachel Tackett. “Due to their quick response, and the demanding work done by our fire department to extinguish the fire, they prevented a total destruction of the home.”

Kill Devil Hills Fire Marshal John Risoldi Sr. is investigating to determine the fire’s origin and cause.
