Mark G. Gecsey, aka “Marky, Mark”, 57, of OBX, N.C., passed away on April 15th, 2023 after battling cancer for 15 months. Mark was born in Petersburg, Va. Sept. 21, 1965. It was there that he first fell in love with the water and fishing on the river. He became a resident of the Outer Banks in 1977, where he continued to foster his love for the water. He was an avid surfer growing up by the ocean and was featured in Surfer Magazine in his early 20s. His love for the water carried on in his adult life where he spent most of his career as a deep-sea fisherman off the docks of Wanchese, N.C., and Montauk, NY. Mark loved to cook and especially loved cooking seafood. He got his start cooking at the OBX restaurant, Etheridge Seafood in the 80s. There, he and Miss Irene created some award-winning recipes.

Mr. Gecsey never married and was preceded in death by his only child, Eternity, and he only ever truly loved her mother, Cherea Angus, a true friend to the very end. He was a kind and generous soul who love the Lord with all his heart and shared the gift of salvation and the power of prayer with many over the years. He will be greatly missed by his family and many lifelong friends.

Preceded in death by Father, Donald G. Gecsey of SC and OBX, His Brother, Johnny Gecsey, CA. Leaves behind Mother, Dee-Renee’ Midgette Grandy, NC, Brother, Vincent Gecsey (Kate Alderton), Harbinger, NC, Sister, Melissa G. Weatherly and sons, IN, NC, and WA.
