Marious Percell Owens, a loving father, husband, and devoted community member, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023, in Harbinger, North Carolina, at the age of 96. Born on April 22, 1927, in Currituck County, North Carolina to the late William Howard Owens Sr. and Maggie Gallop Owens, Marious was known for his kindness, dedication, and handy nature, both to his family and those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

Marious is survived by his four daughters, Donna Vance (Fred), Sue Owens (Reggie), Bonnie Speight all of Harbinger, NC, and Miranda Perry of Kill Devil Hills, NC. He also leaves behind his brother, Calvin Owens, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren who will all cherish his memory. Marious was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rena Bridgeman Owens, daughter Arlene Pugh, sister Doris J. Owens, brothers William H. Owens, Jr. and Jesse Owens, sons-in-law Dennis Speight, William Perry and William Pugh, granddaughter Elizabeth Rene Speight, grandson Christopher Lee Perry, and great-grandchildren William David Roe and Jacqueline Speight.

In 1945, Marious was drafted for military service and proudly served in the United States Army. He bravely fought for his country in the Foreign War Zone European Theater of Operations from 1945-1946, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms that he cherished. Upon returning home, Marious continued to honor his fellow servicemen and women through his active involvement in the American Legion, V.F.W., Disabled American Veterans, and Paralyzed Veterans of America organizations, where he forged lasting bonds with his fellow veterans. He was also a member of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Association.

Marious was a skilled and passionate farmer who dedicated his life to working the land and providing for his family. His love for agriculture was matched only by his affinity for odd jobs, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical work. Marious was always eager to lend a helping hand, and his innate ability to fix and build anything made him an invaluable asset.

A devoted member of Powells Point Christian Church, Marious’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He served his church and community with humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

A funeral service with military honors to honor the life and legacy of Marious Percell Owens will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Powells Point Christian Church, with interment to follow at the church cemetery. There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. immediately prior to the service.
