September 29, 1974 – May 12, 2023

Wanchese, NC – Melissa Christine DeJarnette, known to her loved ones as Missie, passed away on May 12, 2023, at the age of 48. She was born on September 29, 1974, in Jacksonville, Fl., and then adopted by Vicki Daniels Simpson and Rex Edward Simpson at the age of 16.

Missie was a cosmetologist at Always Stylin’ in Manteo, where she shared her talents and unwavering love of the Lord and love of all people with the community.

Missie was a devoted member of Coastal Family Church and found great solace in her faith. She was a loving wife to her husband, Shelby “DJ” DeJarnette Jr., and a devoted mother to her daughters, Oma Joy Daniels and Ivy Lynn Daniels. She is also survived by her father, Rex Edward Simpson, sister Hannah Simpson East (Josh), brothers Zeke Simpson (Tiffany) and Tucker Simpson (Katie), and numerous extended family members and friends.

Missie’s kind heart and giving nature touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her love of all people, non-judgmental attitude, her constant uplifting and edifying nature, infectious smile, her unwavering faith in the Lord and her love for her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vicki Daniels Simpson, who undoubtedly welcomed her daughter into heaven with open arms.

The family received friends and relatives for a viewing and time of visitation on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Wanchese Assembly of God with Pastor Kenny Midgett and Pastor Stephen Wescott officiating. Burial will follow in Cudworth Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you help someone in need like Missie helped us all. Her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on through the lives she touched. Missie lived to help those in need. So, let’s all do this in honor of her.
