Judy Doris (Callahan) Midgette, 74, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, in Virginia Beach, VA, following health complications. She loved fiercely as a wife, a mother, grandmother known as “Nanna”, sister, and friend, having a style all of her own. After moving to Buxton, NC in 1986, she greatly enjoyed working in local restaurants as a cook. She has fondly been described as a spit-fire by those who spent time with her. She and Bobby found joy in renovating the island home where he had grown up. Homemaking was a treasured skill at which she excelled. She easily made gatherings of family and friends comfortable with open invitations for homemade meals, playing cards, and visiting on the porch.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert W “Bobby” Midgette Sr., and her daughter, Sharon Lynn (Midgette) Powers, both whom she had missed very much. She was further predeceased by her parents, James Norman and Linda Mae (Gentry) Callahan; sisters, Shirley Augustine and Lillian Midgette; and brother, Joseph Callahan.
She is survived by her son, Byron Wilson of Buxton; daughter, Anna Cargill of Virginia Beach; son, Robert Midgette Jr. (Jonna) of Rodanthe; grandson, Tanner Powers (Cidney) and their son, Cohen of Rome, GA; granddaughter, Magen Adams (Mark) and her daughter, Emma of Wilmington, NC; grandson, John Cheek (Corrie) and their son, Elijah of Weatherford, TX; Thomas Cheek (Lindsey) and their sons, Jones and Kyle of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter, Kimberly Cheek and her daughter, Julianna of Granbury, TX; grandson, Elijah Midgette of Rodanthe; granddaughter, Jorah Midgette of Rodanthe; brother, Franklin D Callahan of Norfolk; many dear Nieces and Nephews; and caregiver, Susan Cartwright.
A Celebration of Life will be arranged and announced by the family at a later date.
