The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse lifeguarded beach is number five on Dr. Beach’s list of best beaches.

Other lifeguard locations are Coquina Beach Day Use area on Bodie Island and Ocracoke Beach Day Use Area.

The Memorial Day Weekend starts the Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s expanded schedule of ranger-led educational programs. Go to nps.gov/caha under the tab for Plan Your Visit and click calendar.

While on the beach, avoid digging deep holes in the beach. They present danger to beachgoers, emergency response staff and wildlife.

Stay indoors during a thunder or lightning storm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
