Manteo commissioners witnessed the swearing in of Lt. Brad Eilert as interim police chief for the Town of Manteo on Nov. 1, 2023.
After the oath taking, Eilert’s wife Becca pinned the appropriate badge on his shirt. Also present were his sons Barrett and Brayden Eilert.
Most of the police force was in attendance to watch the ceremony.
The commissioners adopted a mid-year employee appreciation of $400 per employee.
As recommended by town manager Melissa Dickerson, the “program is intended to reward and incentivize staff for their hard work and service to the community.”
The program is timed for the middle of the fiscal year and the holiday season. The reward is the same as last year.
The town’s board of commissioners adopted two resolutions.
The first resolution was to appoint Interim Police Chief Brad Eilert to make recommendations to the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission on ABC permit applications.
In the second resolution, the board unanimously agreed to honor veterans by participating in Operation Green Light, scheduled for Nov. 6 through Nov. 19, 2023. Various town buildings will have green lights during that time period, which coincides with the time that the three-quarter replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial called the Wall that Heals is present in Dare County.
In the consent agenda, the board agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding for the Local Programming Development Initiative, a $5,000 grant program sponsored by Government Education Access Channels Committee. With the funding, the town will produce videos for CurrentTV, the town’s website and associated social media channels. The funds must be used by June 30, 2024.
