Manteo High School senior Markus Simmons assists angler Alexander Simcox, 8, of West Virginia, during a Family Fishing program at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.

Simmons, who has attended many camps at the pier, works as an intern this fall for the education department, where he supports environmental science programs with a focus on education, including assisting with fall field trips.

He also collaborates on the development of a personalized environmental science lesson plan, which he will have the opportunity to teach at area schools, according to his supervisor, education curator Christin Brown.
