The Dare County Board of Education, at its September 16 meeting, approved a recommendation to name the First Flight High School baseball field after the school’s first baseball coach and former athletic director James Ray Scott Jr.
During a span of more than 14 years at First Flight, Scott was the first baseball coach and as athletic director piloted the school’s athletic programs to a position of dominance with teams in 31 different sports achieving awards ranging from local conference titles to state championships.
According to a school Facebook post, Scott’s dedication and passion shaped not only the athletic program but the entire school community.
