Harbinger, NC – William “Bill” Lafayette Hazelwood Jr. of Harbinger, NC died on Monday, November 11, 2024, at his home. Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC on February 6, 1935, to the late William Lafayette Hazelwood Sr. and Virginia Medlin Hazelwood, he was the widower of Madge Overstreet Hazelwood.

Bill served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in California, he met and married Madge. After his military service, he began working for Champion International in Roanoke Rapids, NC and remained there until he was transferred to Iron Mountain, MI in 1985. Since Bill and Madge always loved the beach, they moved to The Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1991. After moving back to North Carolina, Bill worked for the U.S Postal Service and retired for the second time.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Mikki Ann Twisdale (Mark) and Gay Duke (Allen); his sons, William L. Hazelwood III, Charles “Chuck” Lewis (Beverly) and James “JimBob” Hazelwood; grandchildren, Heather Simpkins (Patrick), Amanda Lipcsak (Frank), William Joshua “Josh” Hazelwood, Kelly House (Harry), and Leslie Zook (John); ten great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Gail Beale. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Barbara “Bobbie” Ann Willis and Alice Fay “Bootsie” Hazelwood; and a grandson, Marcus Twisdale.

A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Cedarwood Cemetery, Cedar Street & East 9th Street, Weldon, NC 27890.
