Virginia Beach, VA – Margaret Leigh Ferrell Horton, 104, of 5248 Deford Road, Virginia Beach, VA, and a former longtime resident of both Eure and Kill Devil Hills, NC, died Monday, January 27, 2025, in her home where she was cared for by her family.

Mrs. Horton was born in Chesapeake, VA and was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Bessie Castelow Ferrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Edward Horton; her son, Bruce Edward Horton; her sister, Juanita Onley; and by her brother, Edwin White.

A retired telephone operator with Bell-Atlantic, she was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church in the Eure community of Gates County, NC.

Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Elaine Halfacre of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Nancy Lynn Wilkinson of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Brittany Lynn Landrey (husband, Davon) of Virginia Beach and Rickey Halfacre of Fort Smith; and many extended members of both the Ferrell and Horton families, as well as a host of friends from the communities in which she lived.

A graveside funeral service was held Monday, February 3rd, at 11:30 a.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery and was conducted by Wings Over Virginia Hospice Chaplain James Ravenell. Friends visited with the family in the church social hall immediately following the service.

Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
