On Feb. 4, 2025, a vehicle fire stopped traffic on US 64 around 9:35 a.m. The incident happened close to the US 64 intersection with Laurel Bay Road in East Lake.

Dietrich Miller, of Archdale, was driving west in his 2018 Ram pick-up when the vehicle’s front right tire blew out. The narrative from the State Highway Patrol states “as the vehicle came to a stop on the right shoulder of the roadway the vehicle began to smoke heavily then caught fire becoming fully engulfed.”

Volunteers from the Manns Harbor Fire Department responded to the fire; among them were Danny Burdette and Brian Sikes. It was reported firefighting efforts were able to save the truck bed and trailer.
